Lovers and Liars...
...was a very good musical cabaret. I went to the show with some of my friends, and it was quite a blast. The show was about dances, live musical performances, and on-stage drama. The theme was about lovers and their lies (pretty obvious from the name, huh?).
For myself, I always like live performances. It's just that much better than recorded shows. It's the sense of being there in front of the action that just can't be described in a TV box.
Well, the dances and the dancers were great, though I think they could've been better. Well, I don't know much about dancing but EKI dancers (the dancers who were performing for the show) are quite decent.
The drama and the story was quite decent. What I like most were the improvisations the performers did during the show. Somewhere near the end of the 4-hour show, one of the performer (Bertha, who played as the puppet master's wife) stumbled when she was walking down the stairs. The other day it was one of the sinden (Rachel Maryam) who took a fall. And they made jokes out of the incident as if it was no big deal and they made it look natural and seemed to be a part of the show. They did a great performance. Sujiwo Tedjo really shone on that show. He played a great puppet master, and the character fit his personality. Others, like Rachel Maryam, Cornelia Agatha, Sita from RSD and Takako Leen were more than just decent. Sita performed a couple of good songs. She has great voice. Bertha also performed a couple of good songs. She also has great voice. But Sujiwo Tedjo, he really stole the show.
The musics were great. The instrumental that accompanied the whole show was something that has to be experienced to be appreciated and enjoyed. The saxophone players (which was a group called Hypersax) performed marvelously during the show. If that wasn't talent then I don't know what is.
Overall, the show was great. It left quite an impression.
